Hiring Salary Range: $49,362-$91,200 Full Salary Range: $49,362 – $103,636 Annually
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8am-5pm; some occasional evenings and weekend meetings.
Brief Description of Work/Duties:
The Greensboro Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) seeks to hire a Planner to assist with carrying out the MPO planning work program. The job selection process allows for the selection of a candidate at either the Planner 1, Planner 2, or Senior Planner position based on their experience and education. This is an excellent opportunity for planners at a variety of levels to build their skill set, take on increasing responsibilities, and progress upwards as a Planner. This Transportation Planner position facilitates the work and operations of the Greensboro Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) and the GDOT with a focus on MPO official activities, locally administered federally funded transportation project programs, and federal funding and procurement process requirements.
This position will be responsible for facilitating the Technical Coordinating Committee and the Transportation Advisory Committee activities and business. Develop, document, and present agenda items to the committees including required action items and a range of complex transportation planning issues. Maintain MPO website and facilitate public communications and outreach. Facilitate implementation of MPO supported transportation and transit projects. This includes conducting calls for projects, monitoring project schedules and cost changes, monitoring adherence to federal and NCDOT requirements, providing guidance to designers/implementing agencies and facilitating NCDOT and inter-local funding agreements. Also, develop amendments to the Metropolitan Transportation Improvement Program and participate in a variety of MPO plan, program, and study development activities.
This position must be able to work on several projects simultaneously and in a team environment. Ability to organize and manage projects to completion, including team projects, research, compile, and present information to technical & policy boards and general audiences. Knowledge of and ability to communicate with Federal & State transportation agency representatives. Must have strong research, writing, and public speaking skills.
This job is Exempt and is not subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree with 4 or more years of experience in MPO Planning, Transportation Planning, Urban Planning, Geography, or a closely related field
Valid Driver’s License
Experience with Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
An Ideal Candidate Would Also Possess (Preferred Qualifications):
Master’s Degree in Planning, or a closely related field
AICP or GISP certification (“OR” ability to obtain within 6 months of hire)
ARC-GIS experience
Experience with Federal and State Highway Funding programs and requirements
Experience with Transit Funding programs and requirements
Experience with federal procurement processes and requirements
