The Chatham County-Savannah Metropolitan Planning Commission (the MPC) is seeking a highly organized and qualified Planner for Special Projects/ Data Analyst to ensure its services to the public, City and County are provided in an effective and efficient manner. This position will support the agency’s work in planning, research, and policy. The work product will be used by communities to advance regional goals, land use, transportation, housing, fostering collaborative relationships, inclusive governments, sustainability, and resiliency.
The ideal candidate will have the ability to distill complex technical information into reports and presentations, using data visualizations alongside clear and engaging written narratives, compile tabular data; create new spatial datasets, conduct research, analysis, and prepare maps, charts, and written summaries for publication in planning reports and other documents. Candidate must be committed to advancing the sustainable and equitable development of the region through inclusive, empowering, and data-driven public processes. The ability to keep pace with deliverables on multiple projects within MPC is critical to success in this position.
Planner must also possess the ability to work with the public and facilitate staff and public meetings upon request; will be required to exercise considerable initiative and independent judgment in all phases of work. Perform a variety of studies, prepare, and present staff reports; serve on review committees; and perform related work as required.
Masters’ degree required in Urban Planning, Geography, or a related field. Five years planning related experience, within a local government. Strong GIS (Geographic Information Systems) oral and written skills are a must for this position, as is moderate proficiency in scripting languages such as R and Python.
Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.

• Excellent presentation and written communication skills.
