The Greensboro Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is excited to welcome a skilled and passionate individual to join our team as a Planner II. We are looking for someone with a solid background in transportation and transit planning, who is excited to collaborate on various impactful projects. This is an incredible opportunity for planners at different stages of their careers, as we will consider candidates at the Planner I, Planner II, or Senior Planner level, depending on experience and qualifications.

About the Role
In this role, you will work to develop and support transportation plans and programs, including the Metropolitan Transportation Plan, the Transportation Improvement Program, the GoBORO Long Range Transit Plan, and the Bicycle, Pedestrian, and Greenways Master Plan. As a key contributor, you’ll manage projects such as transit plans, the Better Bus Stop Program, technology projects, and new transit service analysis.
You’ll also be responsible for analyzing transit data, using transit planning methodologies to assess route modifications, ridership changes, and overall system performance. Your efforts will support the work of the Technical Coordinating Committee and the Transportation Advisory Committee, ensuring that transit considerations are fully integrated into larger city and regional planning efforts. Must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a collaborative team environment. Must have strong research and writing skills.
This job is Exempt and is not subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
Qualifications
What You Bring
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree with 4-6 years of experience in Transportation Planning or a closely related field (1-3 years of experience is sufficient for Planner I candidates).
- Experience with ArcGIS software and tools.
- Experience/knowledge of transportation planning.
- Microsoft Office Software experience (i.e. Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Valid Driver’s License.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Urban Planning or a related discipline.
- Experience/knowledge of transit planning.
- Experience/familiarity with bicycle, pedestrian, and land use planning, and/or USDOT/MPO and Statewide planning regulations.
- Experience with public outreach activities.
- AICP or GISP certifications, “OR” the ability to obtain them within 6 months of hire or promotion.
