Safety Planner
Ozarks Transportation Organization is a very stable, financially sound metropolitan planning organization with consistent revenue from the Federal Transportation Bill since 1969.
Hiring Salary Range: $56,000 to $79,000 depending upon education and experience.

Minimum Qualifications:
• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in urban planning, geography, public administration, engineering or related field, plus one year of planning experience. Internship experience may be counted toward the required one year of planning experience on a case-by-case basis. Or a Certification from the American Institute of Certified Planners
• Strong analytical and proven communication skills

Ozarks Transportation Organization (OTO) is a metropolitan planning organization (MPO) for the Springfield region. The OTO MPO is the federally designated regional transportation planning organization that serves as a forum for cooperative transportation decision-making by state/local governments and regional transportation/planning agencies.

Springfield-Branson National Airport: Be in-the-know with projects that involve safety, lighting, signals, and runway construction/rehabilitation.
Transit Projects: Be a participant in ensuring our elderly, mentally/physically disabled, socioeconomically disadvantaged, and college population can have access to public transportation services through vehicle purchases, the City Utility public bus system, and the MSU shuttle service.
Roadways: Be actively involved in projects and priorities regarding environmental protection/enhancement, road/bridge/railroad/pedestrian safety, freight movement and economic vitality, congestion management, safety improvements (such as installation of railroad crossings, vehicle signal updates, and guardrail upgrades), and road widening, resurfacing, lane additions, and new construction.

About the Position
Summary: Support the short- and long-term planning functions of the metropolitan planning organization.
Essential Functions
1. Work on the Safe Streets for All plan to identify safety improvements to save lives.
2. Conduct an annual analysis to identify safety improvements and areas that need attention.
3. Advise on safety performance measures and targets.
4. Work to identify and program Intelligent Transportation System projects.
5. Work on the Long-Range Transportation Plan.
6. Serve as staff to a regional safety committee.
7. Develop safety programs to enhance safety programs for local cities and counties.
8. Oversee freight planning activities.
9. Serve as staff to the Traffic Incident Management Committee and deconstruct incidents to identify enhanced clearance times.
10. Perform other duties as assigned. Specific position assignments will vary depending upon the needs of the Organization.
