Job Description
The purpose of this position is to develop, review, and implement urban and regional plans to assist in reducing and eliminating fatal and serious injury crashes in and around Fayette County by the year 2050 through professional, technical, and analytical planning. This position will be known as the Vision Zero Coordinator and serve as the primary staff to coordinate both the Lexington Safety Action Plan and the Jessamine County Safety Action Plan.

- Experience in budgeting, grant writing and resource management
- Familiarity with local, state, and federal transportation policies and regulations
- A thorough knowledge of Urban Planning principles
- Understanding of the Federal Highway Administration’s Safe Systems Approach
- Build effective working relationships with professional staff in and outside the division
- Prioritize and manage multiple work assignments and legal deadlines
- Display a high level of independent judgement and problem-solving skills
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in architecture, landscape architecture, geography, planning, engineering, public administration, environmental science or another related field
- Two (2) years of experience in transportation planning, engineering, architecture, landscape architecture, geography, planning, public administration,
- environmental science or other related fields
- Years of related education may substitute for years of experience
- Years of related experience may substitute for years of education
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Develops, designs, and implements plans for a specified project or program
- Implementation of both the Lexington Safety Action Plan and Jessamine County Safety Action Plan to include the development of future
updates to both plans - Gathers, researches, and analyzes data to make valid conclusions and use for the decision making, planning, implementation of ordinances, and
- prioritization of regional transportation projects
- Reviews proposed designs for regional roadway, bicycle and pedestrian projects
- Prepares written reports and presentations that detail critical elements of plans
- Produces and oversees annual public safety campaigns performed by LFUCG
- Formulates, reviews, updates, and/or makes recommendations for changes to policies, plans, or other relative legal documents as needed
- Represents the Division at meetings and events such as, but not limited to, Boards, Committees, Commissions, Council, and professional conferences
- Manages contracts and grants and develops documents that track spending and funds U.S. Department of Transportation’s Safe Streets and Roads for All Grant Program
- Prepares and submits budgets for public safety campaigns and regional safety plans
- Facilitates and leads public and stakeholder input and education meetings
- Collaborates with the Lexington Area Metropolitan Planning Organization, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC), city departments, Jessamine County, City of Nicholasville, City of Wilmore, Lextran, and residents
- Responds to public and private inquiries related to various projects as they arise
- Performs related work as assigned
SPECIAL LICENSE/CERTIFICATION
AICP Certification is preferred
