POSITION: Director of Planning and Policy
COMPANY: Northeast Florida Regional Council, Jacksonville, Florida
DESCRIPTION:
The Northeast Florida Regional Council (NEFRC) is hiring a Director of Planning and Policy. This is a senior level management position that will oversee the Council’s work on Planning & Growth Management, Economic Development, Transportation and Community Engagement. This position will provide direction and leadership to a team of staff, including the implementation of programs and contracts, management of deliverables, and employee mentorship. Of equal importance is the work to develop and maintain internal and external relationships with member local governments and partner agencies to further the work of the NEFRC.
REQUIREMENTS: The following skills are preferred:
• Strong leadership skills, with an emphasis on facilitation and collaboration among diverse stakeholders
• Demonstrated success in mentoring staff and managing diverse programs.
• Experience in strategic planning and developing and implementing new programs and projects.
• Knowledge and experience working with Florida’s growth management policies and related Florida Statutes, specifically with Comprehensive Plans.
• Experience with writing and implementing comprehensive plans, zoning codes and land development regulations.
• Strong written, verbal, and public communication skills, including experience working directly with state and local officials, community groups and other related agencies.
• Ability to build consensus, think strategically and anticipate future trends and challenges.
• Ability to develop and manage budgets.
• Ability to plan, organize, direct and delegate the development of projects and maintenance of programs.
• Ability to resolve differences among competing points of view and develop commitment to mutually acceptable procedures and outcomes.
EDUCATION:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Planning, Public Administration, or a field related, with 8 – 10 years of progressively responsible related experience that includes 3 – 5 years of management and supervisory experience.
• Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Planning, Public Administration, or related areas and six (6) years of progressively responsible experience as a Planner or similar position; two (2) years of which were management and supervisory.
• OR an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job, as listed above.
• ACIP certification is preferred.
