Qualifications: Undergraduate or graduate student in the field of urban planning, civil engineering, economic development, economic policy and/or geography. Proficiency with Excel and ArcGIS is preferred.
Descriptions:
Data Scientist/GIS Intern: Work with the WFRC Analytics Group on a variety of projects that support regional mapping/analysis, travel demand modeling, and land use forecasting. Specific topics may include road, transit and bicycle/pedestrian travel; housing, parcels, and land use plans; regional employment distribution; and economic development and regional quality of life. Skills and interests that may be called upon include: GIS and spatial analysis; python coding and platforms for automating repeatable data processing tasks (R, SQL, ArcPro model builder, etc); statistics and modeling; and a general interest and understanding in urban/regional information systems.
Transportation Planning Intern: Work internally with staff and management to provide assistance with regional planning activities in support of the Wasatch Choice Vision, Regional Transportation Plan, Utah’s Unified Transportation Plan, and Utah Parking Modernization Initiative. Potential to work with local agencies, jurisdictions, and partners. Provide assistance with land use, roadway, transit, and active transportation planning, including data analysis and evaluation, performance measures, financial planning, and other tasks as needed.
Economic Development Intern: Work with the Regional Economic Development planner and Community and Economic Development team to support the work of the Economic Development District (WFEDD) and the update of the Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy. Tasks may include work related to project management of local economic development efforts and the CED team’s work supporting and tracking community general planning.
