The Project Manager for Major Transportation Initiatives position (“Project Manager”) is responsible for leading specific major transportation projects. The Project Manager will assist the Transportation Section with the advancement of major projects to completion. To do so, the Project Manager will engage in activities internally as well as externally, especially with organizations such as the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, transit agency and local governments.
Some of the specific efforts include: Highway Corridor Improvements Projects, Passenger Rail Study Management, Freight Infrastructure Plan Implementation, Bus Rapid Transit Planning Management, Micromobility Study, Interchange Justification Studies, Feasibility Studies, EV Charging Station Implementation, Transportation Carbon Reduction Program Development and Implementation, Transportation Alternatives Set Aside program management, or other initiatives in the Long Range Plan and/or Transportation Improvement Program, forthcoming Eastern Pennsylvania Freight Infrastructure Plan, Walk/RollLV: Active Transportation Plan or other agency adopted studies or plans. The Project Manager will supervise personnel through the application of a project-based matrix management structure, internal resources and utilizing consultants. The Project Manager will work in close collaboration with the Chief Transportation Planner and the agency’s Senior Management to support an organizational culture that is equitable, inclusive, and collaborative, and provides strategic and dynamic leadership within a high performing, professional workforce.
The Project Manager must have a comprehensive understanding of federal and state transportation and/or environmental planning and programming requirements, as well as a full understanding of MPO functions. The Project Manager reports to the Chief Transportation Planner, who leads the Transportation Planning Section. This position operates as a deputy to the Chief Transportation Planner, as well.
