Role and Responsibilities
SEMCOG (EOE) is seeking an organized and experienced Planner with an interest in environmental planning, sustainability, and regulatory coordination. This position is ideal for a Planner who desires work in a variety of environmental topics including air quality, water quality and water infrastructure, stormwater, materials management, and environmental compliance. This position is part of a job series and offers promotional opportunities. Employment offers of level I, II, or III will be commensurate with applicant experience and qualifications.

The ideal candidate understands environmental policy, infrastructure, and land use planning and can translate technical concepts into practical planning for local governments. Works closely with municipalities to support environmental and infrastructure initiatives. Responsibilities include providing support to current projects, supporting grant development, assisting communities with compliance and reporting requirements, and integrating environmental considerations into transportation, land use, and infrastructure planning efforts. The Planner will represent SEMCOG in meetings and workgroups, with strong communication and presentation skills supporting collaborative problem-solving on complex environmental topics. Experience and Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Planning, Urban Studies, Public Administration, or a related environmental science or water resource field.
• At least one (1) to seven (7) years of experience in project management, group facilitation, working on a multi-disciplinary team, and with technical writing/communication.
• Working knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), data analysis and visualization, and research techniques.
• Knowledge of and interest in water resource and environment planning priorities, regulations and permit compliance, current infrastructure, and environmental legislative issues.
• Strong quantitative skills and capacity to prepare, interpret, and analyze complex data. Ability to translate technical information in a non-technical manner; demonstrate effective written and verbal skills; create and deliver effective presentations.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact and work with a range of external stakeholders including federal, state and local agencies.
• Working knowledge of modern office procedures, methods, and computer equipment, including applicable software (Adobe, Microsoft Office Suite, etc.).
