Community Planner
The primary role of the Community Planner is to provide planning technical assistance, and project management of consultant-funded projects in support of member communities’ priorities. In addition, the Community Planner will participate in regional planning, program administration of the Transportation and Land Use Connection (TLC) program, and may fulfill other duties based on skillset and need. This work helps communities to integrate their land use with local and regional transportation consistent with the Wasatch Choice Vision.
Functions and duties include, but are not limited to:
- Work with WFRC team members to assist communities. Provide planning technical assistance, and support to local government members and partners of WFRC.
- Provide planning assistance to local governments which may include public engagement activities, policy recommendations, mapping and GIS, graphical and written communications, and plan writing.
- Provide guidance to cities as they work to update general plans.
- Contribute to the TLC program, assisting WFRC staff and/or communities with scoping, procuring, and administering their planning efforts; ensure projects meet community and regional goals.
- Aid in evaluating program applications.
- Perform coordinating duties and tasks related to the ongoing development, production and maintenance of the TLC Program, including an annual progress report, web and online map updates, tracking progress, and public outreach efforts.
- Provide support in managing the TLC Consultant Pool.
- Prepare and deliver written and oral communications to a wide variety of stakeholders, conveying transportation and land use concepts and recommendations in a clear, compelling manner.
- Work with WFRC groups on elements of the Wasatch Choice Regional Vision, as well as outreach and implementation of the Vision.
- Maintain professionalism, integrity, and a public-service attitude.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualification requirements:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelors Degree or Masters Degree in urban planning, engineering, geography, landscape architecture, public administration, or a related field.
Minimum one to two years of professional experience in urban/city planning, urban design, or related fields. Desired skills include experience in spreadsheet, mapping and GIS application, land use and corridor planning, project management, and professional communication skills.
Compensation and benefits:
Competitive compensation, commensurate with experience and responsibility. Full benefits package including participation in the Utah Retirement System; 401k/457 with employer match up to 7.65%; medical, dental, vision, life insurance; paid time off, and transit pass and parking. Hybrid work schedule with in-office days on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
