Are you passionate about improving transportation safety, shaping regional infrastructure investments, and delivering meaningful transportation projects that impact entire communities? The Evansville Metropolitan Planning Organization (EMPO) is seeking an experienced and collaborative Senior Transportation Engineer to lead regional transportation engineering and safety initiatives across the Evansville metropolitan area. This is a unique opportunity to play a central role in transportation planning, project development, safety analysis, and federal-aid program delivery while working closely with local governments, INDOT, transit agencies, and regional stakeholders.
In this leadership role, you will help guide the future of transportation across Southwest Indiana and the Henderson, Kentucky region by overseeing MPO transportation programs, supporting local agencies, and advancing projects from concept through implementation We’re seeking a motivated transportation professional who combines technical expertise with strong communication and collaboration skills.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Transportation Engineering
- 5+ years of transportation engineering experience
- Experience with federal- or state-funded transportation project delivery
- Knowledge of roadway design, traffic operations, and safety analysis
- Valid Indiana Driver’s License
Preferred Experience
- MPO, INDOT, or Local Public Agency (LPA) experience
- Transportation planning, corridor studies, or traffic impact analysis
- Experience with HCS, SYNCHRO, or similar traffic analysis software
- Familiarity with:
o MUTCD
o AASHTO standards
o ADA/PROWAG requirements
o Complete Streets and Safe System principles
