Forward Pinellas, the Planning Council and Metropolitan Planning Organization for Pinellas County, Florida is seeking a Transportation Planner to join its team. This position is central to the agency’s goal of improving multimodal safety through the implementation of Safe Streets Pinellas, the agency’s Vision Zero Plan. Our agency is a progressive and innovative organization whose mission is to work with our partners to guide effective multimodal transportation solutions and respond to the changing needs of a redeveloping Pinellas County.
This position is primarily responsible for the implementation of the Safe Streets Pinellas Action Plan and for ensuring that the projects that are implemented through grant applications and the Transportation Improvement Program, support the safety outcomes desired by our communities. This position provides support to the School Transportation Safety Committee and other local and regional committees that advocate for a safer transportation system, while also maintaining the Transportation Improvement Program and agency transportation performance measures.
The ideal candidate should have a Degree in Urban Planning, Engineering, Public Administration, or a related field and a background in transportation planning with a passion for improving safety. Experience should include knowledge of street design concepts and land use regulations that have a positive effect on safety and accessibility. The candidate should also have experience in long range transportation and/or comprehensive planning, environmental justice, complete streets, citizen engagement, and intergovernmental coordination. They should be a creative problem-solver with strong interpersonal skills. Effective written and oral communication skills are essential. Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is preferred.
Specific job title and salary depend on qualifications. Minimum starting salary for a Planner is $45,968.00/year and the maximum starting salary for a Principal Planner is $85,030.40/year.
