RFP/RFQ Description
Billings MET Transit provides fixed-route bus and paratransit service to Billings city residents in Yellowstone County, Montana. The transit system is currently a Division of the Aviation and Transit Department of the City of Billings and shares the department with the Billings Logan International Airport. The MET Transit system was established in 1973. Billings is a designated urban area with a population of over 119,000 within the city limits and a total UZA population of over 128,000. Billings MET Transit is the designated recipient in the urbanized area of Federal Transit Administration (FTA) funds and carries all the duties and responsibilities stemming from this designation. The City of Billings is governed by a mayor and ten (10) member City Council which serves as the transit agency’s governing board. The area is served by a Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) that includes representation from the City of Billings, Yellowstone County, the City/County Planning Board, and the State of Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) but is housed within the City Planning Department and directly operated by City employees.
